TRANSLATIONAL OMICS

TRANSLATIONAL OMICS

The emerging domain of translational omics aims to facilitate the biological advances efficiently from a research laboratory to a clinical setting. Quantitative analyses of various molecular perturbations in case of multiple disorders have traditionally been performed using classical methods wherein one or two genes are probed. Recent technical developments in the field of omics have rendered the researchers with a more comprehensive survey of these molecular alterations and thus present novel approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of these groups of disorders.

Next-Generation Sequencing has played a key role in identifying new mutations in SARS-CoV-2 virus that was not detected using already established molecular diagnostic assays. It has also helped in screening targets for possible COVID-19 therapeutics. Omics technologies have already played a key role in the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine development and repurposing of drugs against the infection.
